Stalins kossor - Sofi Oksanen

Book

Books can be read just for entertainment, sometimes you read the for the facts this book you read because it takes you in its grip and holds you there. Its not a fun book, you can even say that it it quiet disgusting. But it is real, naked and you can't not be touched by it.

"Stalins kossor" or "Stalin's cows" as it's called in English is written by Sofi Oksanen, original language is Finnish. It's about Anna, a woman with severe eating disorders. It's about her, how she got sick, about her mother in 1970' Estonia and her grandmother in 1940' Estonia. The name Stalin's cows refers to the name that the deported Estonians gave to the bony goats from Siberia, it also refers to people today with severe eating disorders.

The book is right on target, and I recommend all to read it, Sofi Oksanen is one of the most talented writers I have ever read. And I know I said that about Scarlett Thomas but this woman is way out of her league. This book doesn't entertain, it captivates.
